GREETING,
I am pleased to share a new program with you, Coaching for Beginning Agriculture Teachers. The program is endorsed by Indiana Team Ag Ed and its partners. We began this program during the 2014-2015 school year and have seen the success it provided to new agriculture teachers and their coaches. The program involves matching a new teacher with a veteran teacher in a nearby school to coach him/her through their beginning year. Agriculture teachers are typically faced with a multitude of unique situations and it is our hope that the coach will help the new teacher work through any challenges.
YOUR TEACHER has met the criteria for coaching as she is a member of the Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators; our professional organization, has at least three years of teaching experience and teaches in an approved agricultural program. I have spoken with her and she has a desire to grow and learn personally through this experience.
We seek your approval to allow her to participate in this program during the 2017-2018 school year. Her responsibilities include coaching the new agriculture teacher at XXX SCHOOL through electronic correspondence, phone and one site visit during the school year. This visit should be set up to allow her to see the new teacher in his school environment during a regular school day during the fall semester, therefore the possibility of professional leave from school may be necessary. The program has funds to reimburse for the substitute teacher that day.
Indiana is faced with a shortage of agricultural educators. Team Ag Ed is focusing on recruiting and retaining agricultural educators. This is just one of the methods that we are using to improve the profession for the future of Indiana’s students. We hope that you will share in our vision for agriculture education and see that this program will increase the success and professionalism of our new and veteran teachers.
